Campbeltown, a charming Scottish town near the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula on the magnificent west coast, is home to the Springbank Distillery.
Written records date back to 1591, when Campbeltown whisky was first mentioned. Springbank, the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown, was founded in 1828 on the location of Archibald Mitchell’s illegal still. As the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland, Springbank is currently one of just three distilleries in the Campbeltown area.

Every year, barley harvested in or near Campbeltown is used to make the Local Barley. To keep making this limited edition, they commission a local farmer to grow barley each year. Every batch of whisky has a different taste thanks to variations in barley varietals, maturations in casks, and the amount of time the whisky is aged.

This Springbank expression was distilled in May 2011 from Belgravia barley grown on Glencraigs Farm and matured for 11 years in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-rum casks before being bottled in December 2022.

Tasting Notes

Nose: sweet, lots of yellow fruit, mainly pears, vanilla, mineral flavors, sea salt, wood, caramel, motor oil, and dirt.

Taste: As per the node, there are also a lot of yellow fruits, pears, plums, apricots, vanilla, oak spice, a bit of chili, and salted caramel.

Finish: medium, quite spicy, chili, firewood, caramel, and vanilla.

Attributes
